Shehu Shagari was a fulani man, a Nigerian fulani; he was an indigene of Sokoto and a first republic junior minister. Shehu Shagari took office as the president of Nigeria in October 1979 and deported Abdulrahman Shugaba, a Muslim and tribal fundamentalist to the border of Niger republic the following day. Shugaba thought that he was powerful and was flexing his muscles as foreign fulanis usually do in Nigeria. Shehu Shagari did not condone evil as other fulanis do however, a trouble maker and a Muslim sect in the name of MAITASINE rose up in 1980 to terrorise Kano as boko haram did in Maiduguri; Shehu Shagari as a no-nonsense man, sent the army and the airforce to destroy them during the Christmas festival in 1980.

Nigerians are playing politics and cajoling with foreign fulanis who boldly destroy lives and properties of Nigerians with impunity. No one is saying anything; media houses are scared to death. They even complete the sentences of their respondents to stop them criticising the government for fear of government harassment and intimidation. Are ordinary Nigerians cowards? Must we allow Nigerian military and government to protect foreign killers of innocent Nigerians? Benue state is bleeding profusely, and those in the military are not doing anything. In fact, we hear that Nigerian military has been infiltrated by repentant fulani terrorists. However, foreign Fulanis are not Nigerians and must be arrested and sent back to where they came from as Shagari did to Shugaba! Nigerian military should get out of the way to allow Nigerians to defend themselves if the military cannot defend the people.
