The election would be rigged but it would be minimal! Corrupt Nigerians outnumbered those doing things right. Nigerians are corrupt due to the fact that they are brought up through corruption and not that they chose to be corrupt. The origin of corruption in Nigeria is sectionalism with tribalism and coupled with my-turn-syndrome. 20 years ago in 2002 I wrote about my-turn-syndrome in West African Magazine as the biggest problem of Nigeria. Now I have been vindicated by “emilokan” political ranting in 2022. Corruption is embedded in Nigeria government and commerce from top to bottom. Those at the top corrupted those at the bottom and it becomes the norm, if not culture. It is generally agreed as “Nigerian character”. However “emilokan, sectionalism and tribalism” led to election rigging. In fact, Nigeria is where she is presently due to political party delegates and the Electoral Commission (INEC). Party delegates at party primaries select the most corrupt individuals, and INEC at the polls give to Nigerians the worst of the criminals to be in government. For these reasons, Peter Obi decamped from PDP to fight corruption from outside because Nigerian political party principles are “he who is not with us is against us, and if you cannot beat them, join them”. Peter Obi decided to do the opposite, and now we know that Nigerians are tired of corruption and want something different from the Nigerian norm.
However, I hope Nigerians are wiser as they are suggesting. The issue is, the more I try to understand Nigerians, the less I penetrate through their minds due to the fact that anyone under the age of 40 years old has known nothing but corruption and corrupt practices in Nigeria. They are products of corrupt systems, be it civil service, government officials, ordinary citizens as Nigerian character is corruption. In any nooks and cranny of Nigeria the language of government and business is corruption; either you receive or you give one way or the other. It would take another 50 years to change the mindset of Nigerians at all levels however, changing the masses of the only system they know would be harder. All educated Nigerians must be re-educated! The mindset of Nigerians is polluted by corrupt tendencies hence election season is a time of small-bucks; making small change to have temporary enjoyment instead of looking at the bigger picture which is good governance! During this four-year phenomenon of corruption, Nigerians jointly duped themselves, betrayed themselves, destroyed their own future by helping corrupt party officials and the INEC officials to rig the election, and hundred (100) days later they turn around to complain about bad government and lack of infrastructures. If this not madness, please let someone educate me about it.
However, we have to begin somewhere to change the narrative, at least from INEC and 2023 elections. It is certain that both PDP and APC would do all they can to rig the election by bribing INEC staff whose ambition is to make small money through the election as they took the job for what they can get personally from it. Let us admit that the 2023 election would be somehow manipulated by some criminal minded INEC officials though the rigging would be minimal. Let us hope it stays minimal! Nigeria is corrupt through and through. Nigerians should vote whosoever they want conscientiously and they must make sure that they do not come hundred days later to complain as one cannot eat his cake and have it! INEC and politicians with the blessed party structure over to you; take it, rig it and let us know the result however, be convinced that Nigerians would not take the rigging of 2023 elections lightly. Do to Nigerians as you wish but be ready for the consequences. 2023 presidential election is not “business as usual”. The world is watching you. I and my family are Obidient. My kid-brother is Emilokan; I don’t know what he sees in it. However 97% of Egbujor family and Awaka indigenes are Obidient. Owerri is Obidient and would be delivered to Peter Obi. If you want change, vote for change. I do not know about you and your family and constituency; are you voting for Peter Obi? Is your constituency Obidient? For Nigerians to continue to vote for APC and PDP would not in any way bring change to Nigeria. This is the reality of things. I listened to a friend of mine in Owerri trying to explain himself but his argument is in the minority. Please ignore the minority and vote with the majority for Peter Obi and the Labour Party. Be part of 2023 election, be part of the change that is sweeping Nigeria. Nigeria would never be the same again. The time for change is now!
My name remains Oguchi Martins Egbujor, the messenger of truth. Vote for Peter Obi for a change and the Light of God to shine upon us. Nigerians have suffered a lot under APC. May God guide us as Heaven help those who help themselves. He who has ear let him hear!
